About Blue Mesa Reservoir.

Blue Mesa is Colorado’s largest lake, when full it is about 19 miles long with four arms ranging from one to three miles and has 96 miles of shoreline. The deepest point in Blue Mesa when it is full at 320ft.

 

You can swim in the Blue Mesa between June and September. Jet Skis allowed on the lake.

Lake Fork Marina

 

Lake Fork Marina offers daily and seasonal slip rentals, boat rentals, and a boating store and gift shop, and a gas dock. Lake Fork Marina opens by May 15th, early and late season hours are 8 to 5, mid-summer hours are 7 to 7. Elk Creek Marina

Located 8 miles from Lake Fork Resort cabins, Elk Creek Marina is a full-service marina for the fishermen and boaters on Blue Mesa Reservoir. Services include daily and seasonal slip rentals, boat rentals, a boaters store and gift shop, a gas dock, and a boat repair facility. Elk Creek Marina - Opens by May 1st.

(Boating Info) Zebra Mussel Inspections may be required.

All motorized watercraft launching in Curecanti National Recreation Area are required to be inspected for invasive mussels and, if necessary, decontaminated in accordance with procedures set by the Colorado Department of Wildlife. In addition to the mandatory inspection prior to launch, and to be in compliance with the State of Colorado ’s Aquatic Nuisance Species protocols, all motorized watercraft leaving Blue Mesa, Morrow Point or Crystal Reservoirs will undergo a second inspection to verify the watercraft has been cleaned, drained and dried.

 

Launch Ramps

 

Launching of motorized watercraft is only permitted at Elk Creek, Lake Fork , and Stevens Creek . All secondary boat launch sites (such as Iola, Dillon Pinnacles, Ponderosa and Dry Creek) are now closed to launching motorized vessels.

3 reservoirs, named for corresponding dams on the Gunnison River , form the heart of Curecanti. Blue Mesa Reservoir, Morrow Point Reservoir is the beginning of the Black Canyon , and below, East Portal is the site of the Gunnison Diversion Tunnel, a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.
